Never Ignore Your Doctor's Advice About Your Blood Pressure

I have always been in pretty good health, so I was surprised one day when my doctor told me my blood pressure was a bit high. She told me to begin watching my salt intake, start exercising, and to try to relax. Well, I intended to follow her advice when I left her office, but the next day I was back to my same habits. I kept using the salt shaker and didn't begin an exercise routine like I had planned. When I went for my next check-up, she told me that my blood pressure was even higher and approaching a dangerous level. I had to begin a blood pressure medication to manage it. I wanted to create a blog to share my story and remind people to listen to their doctors' advice. If a few lifestyle changes can improve your health, then you should make them.

Picking The Best Assisted Living Facility

Blog

When it is time to evaluate assisted living facilities for your loved ones, you can't be too picky. Whether it is for a really close friend or a beloved family member, finding the right assisted living situation should be a well-thought-out process. There are sure to be multiple assisted living facilities in the area, and you need to make sure that you pick the right one. There are a few different things that you should look for in the assisted living you pick. This is a simple list to get you started in your search for the very best facility available.

Home Sweet Home

Take you loved one to tour the facility, and make sure that you listen to their opinion since they are going to be the one that is staying there. Decide what type of environment is best for you loved one. Do they need to be in a facility where they are completely taken care of, or are they still able to get along alone? If they are able to make it on their own, but just need a little extra help, then you will want to make sure that the area is completely livable. Make sure that you are able to look at the rooms that are available. Your loved one should feel right at home in the room. Look inside the bathroom to ensure that there are safety bars in the bathtub or shower. Check the thermostat to make sure it is working properly. Even check to make sure that the amenities and appliances are working properly.

Staff

Be sure to talk to some of the staff. This is especially important if your loved one is going to be interacting with the staff on a daily basis. Talk with the caregivers and ensure that they are the type of people that you would like your loved one to be around. Talk to your friend or family member and see what their opinion on the staff is. If the assisted living area gives ample room to live independently, see how often they will check on each tenant. You want to be sure that they are committed to making your loved one's stay as comfortable as possible. Also ask to talk to the manager of the facility so you can get a sense of their vision and personality since they are going to be the one responsible for setting the tone of the entire facility.
